The Pixel Cask Project

Aging in the Barrel of Gaming Culture and Development

The Pixel Cask Project is an attempt to learn gaming development through exploring my favorite games - absorbing the lessons learned in development. As an aging gamer, I have a nostalgic love for the games I watched change the gaming world growing up. I also have a healthy appreciation for what makes modern games work - as well as a healthy skepticism for industry practices and business models that ruin games. The Pixel Cask project will explore everything that was great while highlighting things that haven't aged wells in the games I grew up with. Through this journey we will dive into everything from game mechanics, stories of development, game engine evolution, narrative creation, music choices, and more. The finished product will likely be underwelming and broken but it will be a shared journey into creation - filled with Legendary games, stories, and artists.
